Outcome of RIEF 2019: Russian Experience with Digitalization for Reliable Power Grids
The Prosoft-Systems engineering company presented its solutions for digital substations and digital district power grid at the 7th Russian International Energy Forum in Saint Petersburg. Following the event, the company signed a cooperation agreement with the NexGEN Consultancy Indian system integrator and reached preliminary agreements on joint projects with Russian electrical equipment manufacturers.
The Russian International Energy Forum—and its specialized Power and Electrical Engineering exhibition — is one of the fuel and energy sector's central events. During the event, Prosoft-Systems specialists presented the professional community with the equipment supplied as part of the hardware/software complex for creating digital substations and spoke about their own experience digitalizing power grids.
Andrey Bondarchuk, Chairperson of the Committee on Energy and Engineering Support of St. Petersburg, representatives from the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce and foreign engineering enterprises visited the company's exhibit, which was organized with support from the Russian Export Center.
As part of the panel discussion, Denis Zhigalov, Senior Product Application Engineer of the Division of Power Grid Automation Technical Marketing and R&D Group, gave a presentation on implementing a Smart Grids project based on the ARIS hardware and software package. He addressed the issues in developing, producing and implementing SMART GRID elements, including electric energy metering, network monitoring and management (dispatching), as well as the smart fault location, isolation and service restoration system (FLISR).
Features of the FLISR system created by Prosoft-Systems engineers:
- Network topology control and flow switch monitoring
- Line capacity control during restoration
- Preferred recovery path selection based on fixed criteria
- Power source priority tracking
- Paralleling probability elimination
- Parallel processing for up to 30 concurrent faults
Currently, the Smart Grid system is in commercial operation in three cities of the Republic of Tatarstan. Prosoft-Systems specialists have automated more than 30 facilities of the Grid Company OJSC by implementing a system to aid decision making in emergency situations, increasing network observability to 99%, and providing more than 70 thousand people with a highly reliable power supply.
One of the most important events of the business program was the signing of a cooperation memorandum with the NexGen Consultancy company. This partnership with the Indian automation systems integrator for the power industry and energy-metering systems software developer is going on its third year. During their visit to Russia, the foreign guests discussed with Prosoft-Systems representatives a joint advancement in solutions for emergency control automation for the system operator and the national networks of India.
The agreement, signed at RIEF 2019, establishes NexGen Consultancy as the exclusive representative of Prosoft-Systems Ltd in India. Together with this partner, Prosoft-Systems will launch a pilot project in Indian power grids and offer its innovative technical solutions to South Asian power companies.
